Maya nepali poem

Born Marguerite Annie JohnsonMaya Angelou — was an African American writer who is most famous for her poems and seven autobiographies. She was a prolific poet who explored numerous themes in her poems including that of women, love, loss, music, struggle, discrimination and racism. Her poems continue to be extremely popular and have been called the anthems of African Americans. Fall gently, snowflakes. In this poem, the narrator is a stay-at-home mother who is engaged in a long day of tiring work.

maya nepali poem

In the first stanza, she lists, without complaining, the various household chores she has to complete in a single day. My folks can make me split my side.

I laughed so hard I nearly died. The tales they tell, sound just like lying. I laugh until I start to crying. When I think about my folks. In this poem, Angelou presents the perspective of an aging maid to make a statement about blacks surviving in a world dominated by whites.

We are weaned from our timidity. In this poem, Angelou talks about the history of the continent of Africa with its resources plundered by European imperialists and its people taken as slaves. Now if you listen closely. Storm clouds are gathering. The wind is gonna blow. The race of man is suffering. And I can hear the moan. Can make it out here alone.

We, this people, on this wayward, floating body. Created on this earth, of this earth. Have the power to fashion for this earth. A climate where every man and every woman. Can live freely without sanctimonious piety. Without crippling fear.

In this poem, Angelou talks about the history of the human race which has tried to make civilization great through accomplishments like building marvelous monuments and gathering knowledge. However, she believes true achievement would be to give up hostilities and embrace peace.

It is only then that we will be able to achieve our true potential and realize that true wonders of this world are actually we. With themes of human rights, peace and social justice, A Brave and Startling Truthwas written for 50th anniversary of the United Nations in and read by Maya Angelou at the commemoration.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams. This poem is inspired by the same poem, and like Sympathy, uses the imagery of a caged bird to dwell on the oppression faced by African Americans.Yogmaya's poems are set around the time when Nepal was ruled by the Rana regime and when India was ruled under the British raj. Her style, characterized by the cultural and political oppression of the time was distinctly original and courageously outspoken. Despite putting a significant focus on the Hindu religious context as a religious leader, her poems and activism themes heavily revolved on female and minority rights in the region, which appealed to a lot of people around the time.

In her later years, her activities were heavily monitored by the government and her works were banned by the authorities under the command of the Rana rulers and despite the persecution of her group, she is notable for opting to remain in Nepal and spending her last days around her birthplace in Eastern Nepal.

It is also regarded that Yogmaya founded the first organization of Nepali women, the Nari Samiti for women's rights inwhich was considered to be the main lobby behind the abolition of the Sati Pratha in Nepal in Yogmaya's activism begun after she declared renunciation and returned to Nepal.

With the authorities increasingly harsh towards Yogmaya and her group of supporters, as well as, unwilling to reform their brutal and corrupt approach to governance, Yogmaya and her 67 disciples consciously committed the biggest mass suicide Jal-Samadhi in Nepali history by jumping into the Arun River in She was born as the eldest child and the only daughter from her parents, father Shrilal Upadhyaya Neupane and mother Chandrakala Neupane, among three children.

According to the prevalent Brahmin customs of the period, Yogmaya was married off by her parents to a boy named Manorath Koirala, when she was just 7 years old. However, throughout her stay with her in-laws, she had a hard time adjusting in the home because and it's believed that she was a victim of domestic abuse.

Around her mid-teen years, Yogmaya decided to flee from the abusive house and return to her maternal home. However, Yogmaya wasn't easily welcomed at home by her father and her community, and they instead insisted on her returning to her in-laws. But with the in-laws refusing to accept her back in their home, her father hesitatingly decided to let her stay at his house. There are two contrasting assumptions about the fate of Yogmaya's husband Manorath Koirala.

The popularly narrated versions mention him dying at age 10 and Yogmaya consequently being a child widow, attributing her widowed status to be the reason behind her in-law's barrage of abuses.

In her mid-teen years, despite being a single woman in the highly conservative and repressive Brahmin society of the time, Yogmaya secretly developed a relationship with a neighborhood Brahmin boy with the surname Kandel name unidentified. As remarriage or widow marriage wasn't regarded positively in the Hindu societyYogmaya decided to flee from her home at Bhojpur and she later married her lover at Assam.

After over a decade of being together, its believed that Yogmaya separated from her second husband and left with her daughter. Some sources mention her second husband dying, while others mention the two actually separating in good terms. Some literature mention her marrying a third husband with the surname Dotel after the demise of her second husband. Historians have disputed about whether Yogmaya gave birth to two daughters or one, but the existence of Nainakala Neupane as her daughter has been recorded.

After deciding that she had enough of marriages and the worldly ways, Yogmaya decided to adopt a life of renunciation and live the rest of her life as an ascetic.

While it was fairly common for males to become ascetics in the Hindu society during the time, it was very rare for females being so. Yogmaya then returned to Nepal with her daughter Nainakala to her home village at Majhuwabesi and handed over daughter Nainakala to her brother Agnidhar Neupane and sister-in-law Ganga.

She hence gave up all her responsibilities and fully assumed the life of an ascetic. It was during this period that Yogmaya began composing her religious poems.

Analysis of her earlier themes has pointed out scholars to assume that Yogmaya was heavily influenced by the principles of reformist Hindu leader Dayananda Saraswatiwho had gained immense popularity across India when Yogmaya resided in Assam.I liked his poem and have made as a new Post.

Whichever meaning of peace you're looking for, whatever peace you're seeking, the poets have probably described it in words and images. Some of the best poems are song lyrics. John Lennon's "Imagine" invokes a utopia without possessions or greed, without the fighting that he believed nations and religions, by their very existence, promoted. Writing from his experience of the devastation of World War IEdwardian poet Alfred Noyes' well-known "On the Western Front" speaks from the perspective of soldiers buried in graves marked by simple crosses, asking that their deaths not be in vain.

Praise of the dead was not what the dead needed, but peace made by the living. An excerpt:. The poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, in the middle of the Civil Warwrote this poem which has more recently been adapted as a modern Christmas classic. Longfellow wrote this on Christmas Day inafter his son had enlisted in the Union's cause and had returned home, seriously wounded. The verses which he included and are still generally included, speak of the despair of hearing the promise of "peace on earth, goodwill to men" when the evidence of the world is clearly that war still exists.

The original also included several verses referring specifically to the Civil War. Before that cry of despair and answering cry of hope, and after verses describing the long years of hearing of "peace on earth, goodwill to men" a phrase from the Jesus birth narratives in the Christian scripturesLongfellow's poem includes, describing the black cannons of the war:. This poem, part of the longer epic narrative poem "The Song of Hiawatha," tells an origin story of the peace-pipe of the indigenous Americans from shortly before the European settlers arrived.

This is the first section from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's borrowing and reshaping of indigenous tales, creating a story of the love of Ojibwe Hiawatha and Delaware Minnehaha, situated on the shores of Lake Superior. Since the theme of the story is two peoples coming together, a sort of Romeo and Juliet plus King Arthur story set in pre-colonial America, the theme of the peace-pipe establishing peace among the native nations leads into the more specific story of individuals.

In this section of "The Song of Hiawatha," the Great Spirit calls together the nations with the smoke of a peace-pipe and then offers them the peace-pipe as a custom to create and maintain peace among the nations. The poem, part of the American Romantic movement of the mid 19th century, uses a European view of American Indian life to craft a story that attempts to be universal. The poem shaped for generations of Americans an impression of "accurate" native American culture. Wadsworth's other poem included here, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," also repeats the theme of a vision of a world where all nations are at peace and reconciled.

Song lyrics were often the protest poetry of the s anti-war movement. Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Universal Soldier" was among those hard-hitting anti-war songs that put responsibility for war on all who took part, including the soldiers who willingly went to war. A more recent poet than most included here, Wendell Berry often writes of country life and nature, and has sometimes been identified as resonant with the 19th-century transcendentalist and romantic traditions.Nepali Poems have been part of our texts and they have also been our friend at leisure times and when we are in different moods.
